You will find the prospective 2009-2010 calendar below.  NOTE THAT THIS CALENDAR MAY CHANGE OVER TIME.  If your child cannot attend class, it is your responsibility to notify the teacher.  If a junior high student misses two or more meetings, I will call to determine the reason.  If a child, preschool through sixth grade, misses three or more classes, I will call.

WHATS LEFT OF OUR 2010 CALENDAR YEAR

9:00am - 12 Noon June 20th - 24th ----VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

.

The Religious Education Program at St. Mary's Parish Family provides formational information and activities for children from age 3 through the eighth grade.  Each child is offered opportunities to not only learn through class experience but also through materials sent home for family use.  Grades three through eight also are expected to attend one retreat per year.  They are listed in the calendar for your convenience.  It is expected that each family live their faith in the family home and daily lives.  Without the active participation of the family, our efforts often come to naught.
Our text program is organized to include material and knowledge that is age appropriate from preschool through eighth grade.  Each grade level, through the sixth grade is offered for only one age level per year.  In the junior high level (grades seven and eight), the material and knowledge is offered in a rotating manner.  One year, we offer the seventh grade material to all the youth and the next year all the youth receive the eighth grade material.  We group them together to give them some familiarity with the process used in the LAUGH program.  This also tends to encourage discussion which increases the interest level and makes the material age and culturally fitting.

The next REP class will be held on February 26.  We will be off next weekend (February 12) for Christ Renews His Parish and the following weekend (February 19) because the Bethel-Tate Schools have a four day weekend due to President’s Day.  If there are any men out there who have decided to attend the CRHP weekend, contact me, Nick McCarroll or Steve Philips.  We will be most pleased to take your registration.  President’s Day weekend is traditionally a time when we take a Sunday off because many of our families do a mini-vacation over that weekend.  Do remember to bring your children to Mass both weekends.  Simply being off REP does not mean that God does not expect you to worship Him within the St. Mary’s family.

Last weekend you received a letter from the Archbishop and heard from the pulpit that Catholics are under attack from the Health and Human Services Department.  While some of you may disagree with the stance taken on the specifics of the HHS ruling, the simple fact that the government sees itself as able to disregard the teachings of the largest single religious group in the United States sends a message of arrogance and disregard for faith matters.  This country was founded on religious freedom and we are seeing that right being attacked every day, but this is the most blatant attack seen in the history of this country.  It requires that we respond in unity.   Let us present a solid front and let our senators and representatives know that we will tolerate this disrespect.  Our children and grand-children require that we protect their rights.  Please pray over this.
